FAQs

How are dogs transported?

Dogs ride in individual Ruffland Kennels in the van for optimal safety. In the summer, the AC is blasting and fans are provided to keep dogs cool.

How are dogs kept safe while hiking?

Dogs are hiked on long lines unless they are e collar trained. Garmin GPS collars are provided for those dogs who can go off leash. For on leash dogs – either properly fitted martingale collars or 3 strap escape proof ruffwear harnesses are used to avoid any backing out of gear.

How does billing work?

I bill monthly and can accept credit cards via stripe, or cash. I email invoices at the end of each month.

What should I send with my dog?

For hikes and day school – just their normal walking gear and any treats if your dog has any allergies; otherwise long lines, treats and poop bags are provided.

For boarding – bring your dog’s food, labeled with amount fed per meal, any medications, a blanket if not destructive, any favorite enrichment toys

What is your inclement weather policy?

I have no problem walking in the rain but will cancel for thunderstorms/lightning. As for heat, we will stick close to the river to cool off. Snow – will only cancel if the roads are dangerous to drive or if the trails are too icy/dangerous to walk

How are emergencies handled?

I will immediately contact you in case of any emergencies and have a list of emergency vets in the area which I can take your dog to if needed.

What will my dog do on hikes?

For group hikes, I pick up all the dogs (2-4 dogs), drive them to either the river or a local park, and we practice calmly getting out of the van and then start our walk. Favorite activities include sniffing, swimming, rolling in the grass, etc. Our favorite places are pony pasture, Bryan park, reedy creek, and the local battlefields. Depending on the number of dogs and the setting, I have long lines in 10 ft, 20 ft, and 33 ft.

How are keys handled?

You can either give me a copy of your key which I will label with the dog’s first name (no last name or address) or you can have a lockbox out and give me the code.
